Available in powder, liquid, or cream forms (with or without shimmer) the options are seemingly endless—and super easy to use. But like foundation, not every highlighter is made for every skin tone.

Lavonne Anthony, the celebrity makeup artist responsible for the glowing faces of Kerry Washington, singer/actress Jamila Velasquez, and model Eugena Washington, is a huge fan of highlighters. “To apply correctly, place the highlight on the high planes of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, inner corner of eyes, brow bone, chin and cupids bow,” she shares.
